PROCESS &
STANDARDS
Sidekick Homes knows how confusing and challenging it can be to determine the best living option for an aging parent or relative. We are here to help.
Our experienced team will provide you with a free consultation and closely examine your needs based on your lifestyle, property and regional zoning regulations. If a Sidekick Home is best suited for you, we will call in one of our trusted builder partners to make your home a reality.
Our builder partners are carefully chosen to provide our clients with the best in sustainable, universal and accessible design. All of our selected builders applied to become a Sidekick partner and provided relevant references and certifications for our examination and approval. We are continually exploring new markets and adding new builder partners so if we don’t currently have a builder in your area, we will very soon.
Sidekick Standards
Our homes are built to construction standards and building regulations that meets or exceeds those for new homes built in your neighborhood. During construction our homes are protected from the extremes of local weather conditions inside a modular factory. Skilled trades people work under the watchful eyes of certified third party building inspectors doing only work they are trained and experienced for. Sidekick selects and certifies only the best of the best of these modular companies to build your new home.
Kitchens
8 feet to 12 feet long (depending on model) single wall granite countertop, with compact under-counter Energy Star rated appliances (including compact refrigerator). Choice of stainless steel or black finishes.
Option: Full size appliances and a full height pantry can be used in some models.
Kitchen Cabinets
Standard cabinets are Merillat “Classic” Series in wood. Roller trays in base cabinets. Option: Any of the manufacturer’s cabinet options can be included.
Heating and Cooling
Heating is ducted forced air via a 92% efficient gas-fired furnace energy star rated furnace. Cooling is by a separate ducted evaporative cooler located outside the home or on the roof, depending on model. R-19 insulation in the walls and R-38 insulation in the roof.
Foundation
Our typical foundation is a crawl space with footings and crawl space wall engineered for your site and soil conditions.
“0” Step Entry
We recommend a no-step approach and entry to your new Sidekick home in order to be accessible to residents and visitors. This is also recommended at back doors and patio doors.
Water Heaters
Our standard is a Rinnai instantaneous/ tankless gas fired water heater, for fuel efficiency, sized for your home.
Elevator
A space for a residential elevator is designed into all two-story models and those above garages.
Option: An elevator can be installed in your Sidekick home.
Solar Ready
All Sidekicks will have one roof area that is clear of all obstructions ready for the future installation of solar photovoltaic panels. Conduit is in place for future wiring needs.
Option: Sidekick Homes will install your solar collector system on the solar ready roof area as an option. Cost will vary depending on your region and the size of the system desired.
